Common Names

Mexican Firebush, Firecracker Shrub, Hummingbird Bush

Plant Description

Sun or partial shade. A heat- and sun-loving rounded shrub that grows larger each summer, reaching up to five feet in diameter. Small, red tubular flowers attract hummingbirds.

In winter, firebush freezes to the ground; the thin stems can be left as a winter accent or (usually) cut to the ground; for this reason, it is listed here among the perennials rather than as a shrub. But make no mistake: firebush will eventually grow very big!
